STEWARDS OF GOD’S GRACE

Friday, 18 October 2019

1 Peter 4 : 1-11

“Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” -1 Peter 4: 9-10

Hospitality demonstrates the heartbeat of God for human security, their upkeep and growth. In His plan to reach humanity God has placed in the hearts of men the desire to answer His call and serve His purpose as Stewards of His Grace in order to accomplish His divine purpose to humanity for His glory.

There is always the quest as human beings to meet the needs and desires of our immediate family as we live upon the face of the earth. But as stewards we are charged with responsibilities to fulfill the desires and instructions of our Master, Jesus Christ. These sometimes contradict our plans and desires as humans. In order to fulfill God’s desire, His grace is highly needed. We may have our own ideas, plans and systems in place, “But what is the Master’s will in all of these?”, we must ask ourselves. What is He saying to our hearts and minds?

As stewards of God’s grace, we are called to minister His will and purpose as He spoke in His Word: "But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:26-28) Our Lord and Master served as an example of selfless stewardship, disregarding all else to fulfill the Father’s desire and grace for humanity. We must be aware of the fact that we should be prepared to present the message and will of our Lord and King for His glory.

"Those who preach must preach God's messages; those who serve must serve with the strength that God gives them, so that in all things praise may be given to God through Jesus Christ, to who belong glory and power forever and ever! Amen." (1Peter 4:11GNT)

As Stewards of His grace we must always think before we speak (Eccl.5:2) - our words, actions, decisions must be governed by His will and for His glory. It is very important that we learn from examples of words and promises of the past in the lives of men who had served as stewards in the Master’s service, to enable us to function very well as Stewards of God’s Grace. Look at the examples of Jephthah (Judges 11: 30-35) and Jacob (Gen.28: 20-22); Jephthah made a rash vow which tells us the danger of making quick emotional vows; Jacob made a promise and he was bound to fulfill it. We are His representatives on this earth and our words are to be His messages and our service His purposes so that all glory and honour go to Him!

Since we are called to serve God’s purpose, let us hold fast to Him as we press unto the mark of our high calling to fulfill His divine will and desire for the souls of men. God who is faithful will always reward us.

Prayer:

Almighty GOD and Father of all creation, our awesome King, give me the grace, wisdom and strength to serve Your purpose on earth and the courage to triumph for the glory of Your name. Amen
