THE RESURRECTION POWER OF CHRIST

Saturday, 20 April 2019

1 Corinthians 15 : 1-34

I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures; that he was buried and that he was raised to life three days later, as written in the Scriptures. -1 Corinthians 15:3-4 [GNT]

The message of the cross which is foolishness to those that are perishing, and the power of God to us that are saved, helps us to understand the true value of the resurrection power of Christ. Christ’s death and resurrection are not just a metaphorical story but a life-given reality! Paul helps us to understand what he perceived of the greatest importance to all believers— the DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ.

Christ’s resurrection did not only show that He is God and that the grave has no power over Him, but it put to silence all arguments and heretic philosophies of men. The resurrection power of Christ gives us who believe in Him the opportunity to be raised and be seated with Him in the heavenly place far above principalities, powers and dominion. In order to experience the value of the resurrection power, we must cooperate with the Holy Spirit who teaches and lead us into all truth!

The Holy Spirit releases His power the moment we take a step of faith. There is no way we will know the value of the resurrection power of Jesus Christ without faith in the authority of God’s word and Christ’s finished work on the cross on our behalf. Our faith in the gospel gives us the sure foundation to build our confidence and relationship with God and the authority of His word. Paul understood what it meant to gain Christ and know Him and said, “…I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith.  All I want is to know Christ and to experience the power of his resurrection…” (Phil.3:9,10)

God’s power is always available— not believing in it does not make it cease to exist. We don’t just need to sit down and say “Yes I believe in the resurrection power of Christ;” but we need to make every effort to get closer to Him daily. The closer we get to Him the more clearer we see the authenticity of His power in and around us.

Paul helps us to understand that we are not what we are by just professing being a Christian but we are what we are, by the grace of God. 1 Cor.15:10 throws more light on this: But by God's grace I am what I am, and the grace that he gave me was not without effect. On the contrary, I have worked harder than any of the other apostles, although it was not really my own doing, but God's grace working with me. Paul helps us to understand that spiritual maturity is neither instant nor automatic; it is a gradual process, progressive development that will take the rest of our lives. This is why we must put our faith in the Lord, be around other people of God and interact with them.
In order to experience the sweetness and joy of the resurrection power of Christ we must not only know Him but be part of a church family in service to the Lord and submission to His servants with the mind of Christ. Because true spiritual maturity is all about learning to love like Jesus and we can’t practice being like Jesus without being in relationship with others. In all of this, we must always be mindful of the people we come across and learn from, because "Bad companions ruin good character."

May we learn to experience the resurrection power of Christ in our lives!

our new history begins with the resurrection.”
