WISDOM: THE PRINCIPAL THING

Proverbs 8 : 1-36

I love those who love me; whoever looks for me can find me. I have riches and honor to give, prosperity and success. What you get from me is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver. -Proverbs 8:17-19

Proverbs is one of the wisdom books of the Bible. We see that Wisdom is given much importance in this book. The writer implores us to get wisdom and understanding. And he says how: the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (Prov.9:10).

When Solomon became the King of Israel, he went to the Lord’s house (The Tent of Meeting) to pray. In response to his prayer God extended to King Solomon any help he wanted. GOD was pleased with Solomon just because he asked for divine wisdom rather than great riches (2Chron.1:5-12). In Divine wisdom and knowledge, we will always find prosperity, honor and success which is far better than the finest of precious stones.

The book of James tells us there are two kinds of wisdom, one from above and the other from below. The Wisdom that comes from above is always submissive and the wisdom that comes from below is proud and foolish. (James 3:17). The Wisdom from Above is Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God (1Cor.1:24); the Wisdom from below is Foolish and Proud, always rejected and made foolish by the God of Heaven. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (1Cor.1:20). This gives us a clear distinction between the wisdom of the World and the Wisdom of God.

Since the wisdom of God is the principal thing, there is always strong campaign from wisdom of the world to blend in, with the Wisdom of God in order to sway the minds of God’s people into error, dispute and apostasy. There are many all over the world, confusing and destroying the souls of men with erroneous teaching, rejecting the Word of wisdom that comes from above.

The Bible says in the beginning was the Word; which word? The word of wisdom- this Word was with God and this word was God (John 1:1). This word became flesh and dwelt among men. This Word is Christ Jesus the God of all creation. He is the wisdom of God!

Christ the Wisdom of God is calling of us to tap into the greatest wealth ever made available to humanity. His hands are wide open to all who come and ask for wisdom with a sincere heart - His voice is calling for all who are willing to come and lay hold of the riches of Wisdom! It is not for the proud, arrogant and disobedient, or those that are wise in their own eyes but for the submissive, humble and prepared vessels set aside for His glory and who do not lean on their own understanding. Seek God’s wisdom!

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)

Prayer:

LORD, I make myself available to you by surrendering all that that I am and all that I know. Fill me with that which you want me to know - I need Your wisdom to triumph for Your glory; In Jesus Name. AMEN!
