Deuteronomy 32 : 1-14

“As an eagle that protects its nest, That flutters over its young, He spread out His wings and took them, He carried them on His pinions.” -Deuteronomy 32:11[AMP]

What a picture of our Heavenly Father painted with words, in the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32! Oh to trust Him with our lives, and see Him carry us on His wings all through our lives!
Moses was asked to recite this song in the hearing of the Israelites and teach them as they prepared to enter their Promised Land. It was a sojourn in the wilderness for 40 years as the first generation of God’s people died and the second grew up and were ready to enter Canaan. They are told to ask their elders to tell them of the past, so they can understand the great deeds of the Lord on their behalf.

As God’s chosen, we aren’t to pattern the behaviour of those who quickly forgot the God who delivered them and rebelled against Him. Instead let’s look to the attributes of God described in our text today and revere Him and decide to re-dedicate our lives.

The God who is our Rock, the faithful One

“Ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.” (Deu.32:3-4). How many of us can say: “Faithful was He, Faithful is He and faithful will He be!” Think of all the times His love and mercy covered you even when you least deserved it and His good and just ways were shown to you to walk in.  He is the Rock of our salvation!- the one who saved you and brought you by His grace into the household of God to know Him and taste His goodness. Would praise rise in your heart and on your lips to this faithful God?

The God who is our Creator and Father

To His people God said: “…in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.” (Deu.1:31). He had chosen them as His special possession and taken care of them as a Father does His children. Today we His children can say: 1 Cor.8:6 says “…yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.” As a Father loves His children so does He love us who fear and worship Him(Psalm 103:13 AMP).  If today you have forgotten the love of a father, look to Him and let His love fill your life as you worship Him!

The God who is our Protector

Deut. 32:10 says, “He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.” Think of the bird that hovers over its young and protects them. Our key verse paints the picture of the eagle teaching its young to fly and constantly watching them as they take their first flight and catches them on its pinions! Yes we can look back and remember the tough struggles- those “hard knocks” of life when we probably thought God wasn’t watching or didn’t care. But the Scripture reminds us He keeps us as the apple of His eye! He wouldn’t let anything touch us that doesn’t get past Him! In all of it, we can say He was teaching us to fly!!- to make our wings strong and learn to rise to heights! Praise God who constantly watches you and me!

Can you thank Him and trust Him as you meditate this word today?

Thought for the Day:

“God’s strength behind you, His concern for you, His love within you,

and His arms beneath you are more than sufficient for the job ahead of you.”

- William Arthur Ward
