Esther 4 : 1-17

"… And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" -Esther 4:14

The Book of Esther reveals God’s providential care of His people. Though the name of God is not mentioned, His sovereignty in the events for the preservation of His people, can be seen throughout. Through the story of Esther we understand that God has a purpose for each one of our lives. He has placed us where we can be best used for His glory.

Mordecai, Esther’s guardian having faith in God and so sure of God’s working sent Esther a message. Esther was afraid to approach the king and ask him to save her people because going to his presence without being asked was risking her life; but Mordecai was adamant: “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.” (vs.14) This is a good thing to ponder as we approach our problems/ fears. God can accomplish His purposes on this earth without us—but He needs our participation. Being where we are and who we are provides us with unique opportunities to participate in His work. You are exactly where you are for such a time as this!

Today, wherever we are, and whatever position we are in, let us overcome our fears and understand we are ambassadors for Christ. We may think our opportunities are insignificant, our circle of influence small, or of little importance but God has a purpose in placing you where you are! Esther 4 shows us that if we do not live up to our purpose, God will still accomplish His will, but He will use a different means. If we fail, we are at the losing end. Like Esther, we must be ready to take our life in our hand and risk everything in His service. We must remember that God is always with us preparing places, opportunities and options ahead of us. We have a God who cares, and we can trust Him that nothing happens by chance and that even the sad and hurtful things of life are under God’s control.

Three things to do to fulfil God’s plan and purpose for our lives:

Do not be silent. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19.20) Proclaim to yourself and others the love and saving power of Christ Jesus!
Do not slack and perish. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) Repent of all slackness and every sin that so easily entangles you!
Do not miss God-given opportunities. “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15,16). Live wisely according to God’s Word and make use of every opportunity God gives to improve yourself and others through His Word!
Let us view ourselves as pieces of a puzzle in the body of Christ, working together to make a whole. Picture the puzzle if your part is missing! See yourself as part of His plan and make use of every opportunity to serve Him and serve others.

THINK ON: You were called for such a time as this!
