Proverbs 29 : 1-27

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18[KJV]

We have a vision of who we want to be and what we want to do with our earthly lives. We also have a plan about how we would accomplish our vision. God has a vision for our lives as well.  Let us take a few moments today to examine our vision with the vision that God has for each of our lives.

God has a plan and purpose for each of us as it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God’s plan for mankind is mentioned in 1Timothy 2:4-6[NLT]: God “Who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.” When we create our own vision for our lives without seeking God or His plan it will be flawed or incomplete.  We need to have a proper vision for our lives because worldly things may blur our vision if we are not careful enough to examine ourselves with the Word of God. God wants each one of us to be saved. There is only one God and there is only way to reach Him; through His Son Jesus Christ. Is it our vision to know the one true God through Jesus Christ? We may have a vision of seeking wealth, fame and fortune, and the pleasures of this world, but the Word of God says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)

There are a few steps to grow God’s vision in our lives:

  1. We need to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God and not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind. Then we will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will (Roman 12:1-2). This is an everyday process of repenting and confessing when we sin and acknowledging Christ’s reign over our lives. We will then strive to overcome being moulded by the pattern of this world and make every effort to be transformed according to His vision.

  2. We begin to seek His kingdom and His righteousness.  We diligently begin to obey His commands with the help of the Holy Spirit. “But when he, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).

  3. We use our talents and gifts for the glory of God. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully ministering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

  4. We believe in the promises of God and walk by faith in Him; we will ask great things of God and attempt great things for God.  “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

God is looking for men and women who will seek and fulfill His vision.  May the prayer of Isaiah be ours, ‘Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8) May God’s vision for our lives be fulfilled as we submit ourselves and obey Him wholeheartedly.  Amen!
