Isaiah 54 : 1-17

"Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman," says the LORD - Isaiah 54:1

The previous passages (Isaiah 52:13- 53:12) sets the tone for the jubilant declaration in this present chapter. First of all, God is dealing with the Israel of Old and its covenant blessings. We will not take time to evaluate that in this devotion; instead we will look how this prophecy applies to the New Testament Church.

All the blessings of the church are totally dependent on the finished work on the cross of Calvary. This is the grand theme Isaiah was dealing in the previous chapters. After bringing out this great truth we can see how God enters the scene, proclaiming the achievements and benefits of it to the humanity at large. This chapter declares the 'Eternal Covenant of Peace' (Isaiah 54:10: "For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,"….). Let us compare the same with Romans 5:1: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”

Once our relationship with God Almighty is re-established through the Suffering Servant-Jesus Christ, the ground work has been completed for us to enjoy the blessings of this great salvation and to receive these promises and build our life on it. If our alienation from the Lord has brought in barrenness, then the Lord Himself is declaring to us to enlarge our tent so that our lonely dwellings are replaced with ‘God with us.’ Matt.1:23:  "BEHOLD, … THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," .., "God with us."

Imagine the blessings if God is with us! Rom.8:31:  “What then.. If God is for us, who can be against us?”  Weapons formed against us will fail utterly as it is prophesied in this chapter—"No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the LORD.’(Vs.17) The enemy of our soul will always try to break up this great love relationship with our God. He will bring in all types of tribulations against us but as Paul has written, we can rest assured that nothing can separate us. The love that bind us together with the Lord has brought in an inseparable relationship with the Lord.

Let’s take time to read and meditate upon: Rom 8:35-39: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  ....Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This kind of eternal covenant relationship is the beauty of eternity. No shadow of doubt; but beautiful and strong as the diamond or precious stones we know of in this world. The foundations of the Eternal city are made up of these kinds of beautiful stones. May the good Lord strengthen us in Him in faith!

Prayer: Dear Father, establish me in this covenant relationship in Jesus name. Amen.
