Proverbs 3 : 1-18

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding;” -Proverbs 3:13

Seeking wisdom and understanding in our daily lives will` bring us true happiness and many other blessings. Obtaining wisdom and understanding is better than gaining gold and silver. Proverbs 3:15, mentions that it is of greater value than rubies. Material wealth does not bring lasting happiness to any man—it only adds worries and problems with it; but not so with pursuing and gaining wisdom—it gives us lasting impact.

It is only when we have wisdom and understanding from the Lord that we are able to gain real insight into the purpose of our life and deal right with every situation that life brings along. We then experience life as pleasant and peaceful. When we gain wisdom, we begin to reject our own ideas and instead begin to trust in God and His instructions for our life. Wisdom is seeking God and His will and way in our life.

The Lord appeared to King Solomon in a dream one night and asked him, …“Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” (1 Kings 3:5) and Solomon asked for wisdom, the ability to discern between good and evil. The Lord was pleased because Solomon has asked for the most valuable thing in life, not life, riches and honor but for wisdom to know God and obey Him. God granted his desire. Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…” Fear of the Lord leads us to living a life of wisdom and understanding and we can find them only through seeking the Lord through His Word.

Do we lack wisdom? Let us acknowledge our lack this day and ask God for help.  James 1:5 [NLT] says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”  It is ours for the asking. Our hearts should be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). Wisdom and understanding are in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him and ONLY Him do we see the power and wisdom of God fully manifest.

May we yearn for the wisdom of God to be upon us through Jesus Christ. He came to give us life, life in abundance and life everlasting. Let us submit ourselves unto Him and trust Him- the source of all wisdom. Let us pray that the Word of God will be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path in this world filled with darkness and folly. Let the wisdom of God through Christ Jesus instruct us, direct us and lead us to a life of victory.

Let’s take this advice: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. (Prov.4:7)

To meditate:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5&6 NLT)
