John 10 : 1-18

“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” – John 10:9

A door accesses or denies the entry into a place. So when Jesus stated, “I AM THE DOOR”—an entry is implied. And being specific-“THE” Door points to the one and only entry! From our reading today, let us look what this door has to tell us about.

Jesus the Door gives us entry into:

God’s Kingdom: Jesus said, “If any one enters by Me, he will be saved…” When Adam and Eve sinned, they were driven out of the Garden of Eden and denied entry into it. Subsequently all of mankind is born in sin and under the dominion of satan unless and until a person willfully takes a decision to take the way God has provided back to the entry of His kingdom.  And that is through Jesus Christ who said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6). God has “… delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col.1:13,14)

God’s Pasture: Jesus also portrays Himself as the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for His sheep(Vs11). We understand from the next part of the key verse- the “going in and out” implies a protection of the sheep-fold— there is safety and security in His fold! There is an intimate relationship between the Shepherd and his sheep- they both recognize each other’s voices! He leads us to God’s pasture! Psalm 23: 1-3 speaks what the Good Shepherd does- He provides so we lack nothing…green pastures…still waters….rest and restoration….leads us through right paths!! Jesus is the gateway to God’s safe pasture!

God’s Abundant Life: Jesus said: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”(Vs.11) The thief mentioned here is satan whose intention is to steal our peace, joy, health, etc….and kill by leading people to desperation and eventually destroy the life of a person by denying entry into heaven. But Jesus gives us life in abundance while He intends for us to have peace with God through Him(Romans 5:1), thereby depositing peace in ourselves and restoring peace with others; He took our sin and infirmities that we should receive His peace and healing (Isaiah 53:5).His joy floods our hearts when we receive new life in Him! What more He grants us everlasting life- life that cannot be destroyed with death! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  A taste of such abundant life is only possible through Christ Jesus!

Dear friend, Jesus is the Door through whom you can enter to find satisfaction and fulfilment in your life. It is not just an access to God’s kingdom but His safe pasture and abundant life! May you decide to enter in before the ‘NO ENTRY’ sign shows up…until it is too late and the door is shut so no one can enter (Refer parable in Matt.25:1-13). When the foolish virgins cried: “Lord, Lord, open to us!’’ The Answer was: “Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.”  Know the Lord Jesus today so that the door will not be closed to you tomorrow!

Thought for the day - Open your heart’s door to Jesus who says: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”(Rev.3:20)
