TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

BORN AGAIN TO A LIVING HOPE

Wednesday, 3 October 2018

1 Peter 1 : 1-12

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope…” -1 Peter 1:3

Our birth and existence upon the face of the earth are not by mistake. God truly designed and placed us here according to his divine purpose and foreknowledge. All the corridors of life we have passed through and the challenges we are faced with even at this moment, as his set-apart children, are not void of his divine attention. We are given the rights and privileges to live upon this earth according to His divine purpose. This made His Spirit agree with our spirit that we are His children: “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8: 16 & 17). If we are to share in His joy, we should equally be ready to endure trials and challenges with Him; Christ in us is the hope of God’s glory!

A certain Jewish leader named Nicodemus, a Pharisee, who found it very difficult to understand the voice of our Lord and Master, after much admiration of his person and personality, decided to question him. The response of Jesus Christ really blew his mind. ‘Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.”’ (John 3:5-7). We are Born Again to a living Hope in Christ Jesus!

We are not who we are by what we think we are capable of doing, we are who we are by the predestine strength of God’s grace and mercy which He had used to mould and shape us to be like Him, in order to show to the world, the express image of His likeness as the children of obedience. In the midst of this wicked and perverse world, it has pleased the Master of all creation to set us aside for divine assignments that are garnished with living hope in Christ Jesus.

In this regard, we need to give thanks and praises to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who did not choose us to suffer His anger, but to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us in order that we might live together with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes. And so, we need to encourage one another and help one another until He returns. We have this living hope in us which helps us strive to live worthy of His calling and His plan for us- His dearly beloved children!

Meditate on:

“Now may the God of hope fill you with

all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound

in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
