GOD HEARS OUR CRY!

Psalms 61

“O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer!” -Psalm 61:1[NLT]

Each of us at some point of life would have definitely felt so discouraged and lonely that we have cried out from the depth of our anguish, “O God, listen to my cry!” In today’s reading portion, we can see David in the same state. David, the king, had to flee from Jerusalem, his life in danger from his own son. Absalom conspired against David and as a result Absalom’s followers grew steadily causing a threat to David’s life and kingship. The great king is now in the wilderness, not knowing what would happen to him next and he just cries out to the Lord!

Sometimes we are at such a low point that we feel like we are far from God and He does not hear us. We surround ourselves with discouragement and speak in such a way that His promise of never leaving us nor forsaking us, is fast forgotten. We forget that it’s only His mighty hand that can pull us out of such situations.  At such a hopeless/helpless situation, if you cry out to Lord as David did, God will hear and deliver you!

This Psalm teaches us several things that we can do when our lives seem to be falling apart or we have the feeling of being overwhelmed –
I. Seek Solitude in God- When you feel that life has everything against you, don’t panic but seek comfort in the Lord. Psalm 46:10 says, Be still and know that I am God.’ These are times to seek God in quietness and wait for His deliverance. Lamentations 3:27-28[AMP] says, It is good for a man that he should bear The yoke [of godly discipline] in his youth. Let him sit alone [in hope] and keep quiet, Because God has laid it on him [for his benefit]. We can see that Jesus did the same often times. Luke 5:16 [AMP] records: “But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion].” God wants us to be quiet in His presence and allow Him to examine us.
II. Hide under His wings- In Vs.4, David asks God to allow Him to be under the safety and shelter of His wings. David knew that this is the one of place where you can find God’s comfort and refuge. You may think, how do we come under the wings of God?  Placing oneself under God’s wings really means trusting Him with child-like faith. When we humble ourselves to seek our Heavenly Father’s guidance and wisdom, in essence, we are seeking the safety of His wings. It may sound difficult to trust God when things seem to be falling apart but you have to make a choice to trust Him! “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge.” (Psalm 91:4)
III. Cry out to God- We can see from the Scriptures, times when David cried; others cried out in desperation; Jesus too cried; but unfortunately, many times God’s children choose not to cry in front of God but cry out to mere men for help in their desperate situation. Dear friend, let God know your sorrow first and then others. Open up yourself and cry at His feet, pour out your emotions in His presence and express your honest feelings. There is none in this world who has an attentive ear to the cry of His children than our God. Psalm 120:1[AMP]: “In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me.”

Are you in anguish today? There is ONE who will hear your cry and deliver you! Would you seek Him?

Prayer:  LORD Jesus, “…When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Ps.61:2). Let me find quiet and rest in You! Amen.
