TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

FEARLESS DISCIPLES OF CHRIST

Monday, 6 January 2020

Matthew 10 : 27-42

“What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear.” -Matthew 10:27 [NLT]

Jesus was commissioning His Twelve Apostles and sending them out in the midst of wolves as He tells them clearly in Matt. 10:16 NLT: “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.” He was not hiding from them the truth about the sufferings one would undergo when they talk publicly about Jesus Christ. The enemy of our soul ever tries his best to veil or stop the gospel being preached. But this is no excuse for us to withdraw from evangelization. Even at the cost of our lives, we need to share this gospel.

The time of unraveling the Truth has come and it is now. Jesus has revealed all the Truth about God and His salvation. It is revealed to His Church at large and particularly to His disciples. The still small voice of the Lord comes to us and He reveals the truths to our hearts and commissions us to preach it to the public. This is the purpose of the Church here upon this earth. In Isaiah He calls out to His beloved people to rise up: Isaiah 60:1-2: “Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.”

Many of us are still hiding due to fear of persecution; this is not the time for hiding. We are called to come out and be a true witness to the Truth in the midst of this darkness. There is no more time left for the Church to play this crucial role. Many are perishing out there, and it is our solemn duty to reach out to them in all known ways to spread this gospel to them. As the Lord’s return is so imminent, it is the duty of the church to finish the task given by the Lord. All these years the church was at large hiding away from this task; now there is no more time left for the church. Her voice has to be heard far and wide. The church must rise out of her slumber and shout out with all the strength that she can find from her Lord. Every opportunity has to be used to get this message to the perishing world out there.

As the Lord reminds us in this chapter; we need to walk obediently behind our Master and carry our cross daily. All this can be done only when we are filled with the power from above. So let us pray that the latter day rain will be sent for equipping His church to do the final harvest of Souls. Instead of sleeping inside the walled-up cathedrals and halls of worship, let the church walk to the street corners and roof tops and shout out this message to the masses. May all the media be filled with the message from His disciples. It is the time for our action!!!

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, please fill us with your power from above to be a true witness to the untold masses around the world. As You have led Your early church please lead us in triumph even this day. In Jesus name we pray.
