Psalms 130 & 131
LORD, I have given up my pride and turned away from my arrogance. I am not concerned with great matters or with subjects too difficult for me. Instead, I am content and at peace. As a child lies quietly in its mother's arms, so my heart is quiet within me. ( Psalm 131:1-2 [GNB] )
Confidence in the Lord teaches us the power and privileges earned in a simple life of humility. Cultivating the ideology of quietness and service in the Lord brings us a great peace that the world cannot give.
In the life of every human being lies the first desire of nature called SELF. Even though we do not own ourselves, yet there is this force within the human nature that always tries to put self above our Creator. But when we come to the realisation of the fact that we were bought with a price and we do not own ourselves, it kills the PRIDE and ARROGANCE of our human nature and subjects us to the spirit of contentment, obedience and humility in the Lord.
This brings us to the place of quietness and peace for our soul in the Lord. We cannot experience the depth of the joy that comes from the throne of grace without taping into the unmerited favour that flows from the river of life. Christ our life giver helps us to know that we brought nothing into this world and it is certain that we can carry nothing out, so godliness with contentment is a great gain.
The security and prosperity of our soul are more valuable than the best that the world can offer to us. Our Lord and Master has this to say: ‘For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?’ (Mathew 16:26)
The desire of our Lord in His word is that we prosper above all things and be in good health even as our soul prospers. Security for our soul can only be found in Jesus because it is only in him we live, move and have our being.
When we choose to carry the excesses of life on earth, we may come to the point of thinking that we have the solution to life and we can solve it all by ourselves, but when we surrender all of ourselves to Jesus then we see to it that those heavyweight, of bitterness, malice, pride and un-forgivingness are thrown away leaving our soul in peace and good health. Our soul belongs to Jesus Christ and can only be safely kept and well protected in Him because He is the only Lord of Lords and Prince of peace.
Thought: In God alone my soul finds rest; my salvation comes from Him. (Psalm 62:1)
