TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

THE VALUE OF FEELING HURT!

Saturday, 13 April 2019

Proverbs 19 : 1-29

“If you are sensible, you will control your temper. When someone wrongs you, it is a great virtue to ignore it.” -Proverbs 19:11 [GNT]

One of the most challenging times in a believer’s life is how to handle hurt situations. No matter how sensitive, obedient and wise you are, there comes a moment when you will feel irritated and hurt by a friend, brother, wife, husband, etc. These moments are never a problem for your life, but the way you handle the situation with your temperament may either solve the problem or add more sting to injury.

We should note that those times we come across situations of ill feelings that cause our temper to rise, it is for our own good. If things are just smooth running, without given the opportunity to deal with moments of hurt we will not value the instruments of challenge. Whenever you are feeling hurt you are given an opportunity to minister to yourself while looking at the situation from your perspective and the other person’s as well. So we should always be grateful to our Lord for the opportunities of hurt as it helps us deal with our temperament and know the value and virtue engulfed in the process.

It's only takes a sensible man or woman in the Lord to know these values in ministry. Feeling hurt and trying to control your temper and yet given an opportunity to enjoy the value of it, adds to life! There is no “right” and “wrong” temperament for ministry ---we need all kinds of personalities to balance our knowledge and relationship with the Church and give it flavor. The world would have been a very boring place if we were all “plain vanilla.” Fortunately, people come in more than thirty-one flavors!! (maybe more!)

Overcoming hurts feeling gives us an opportunity for growth in our relationship with the Lord. You must always bear in mind that our personalities will affect how and where we use our spiritual gifts and abilities. The more hurt feelings we overcome, the wiser and sensitive we become in handling the issues of life.

There are moments we need to overcome by speaking into issues calmly but with a firm stand of love and godliness, and in other situations just stay quiet for a time and observe with keen interest for a positive and fruitful solution. Keeping this perspective, you will see God taking away the heavyweight that hovers over your mind, that you think may be have been impossible and eventually add more value to your life and relationship with Him. Ephesians 4: 32 says, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

If you truly desire to be used by God, you must understand that the very experiences you have resented or regretted in life, the ones you’ve wanted to hide and forget about, could be the very experiences God want to use through you (I mean You!) to help others. For every hurt feeling you overcome, you discover new levels in dealing with your temper. As you overcome, God puts into your vessel the feelings of His unconditional love and a compassionate heart that empowers you for His ministry.

Prayer:

LORD GOD, give me the grace to master

my ill feelings and the desire to work on my temper

so that I might find victory through You

that would ultimately glorify

Your name. Amen
