Psalm 57 is all about the Glory of God. It was written by David in the depths of an unjust situation when forced to flee from Saul and hide in the cave.  In the key verse, David appeals to the goodness of God (or in other words the glory of God) to rescue him and not fire and thunder and disaster from heaven to his enemies. The Psalm ends with a vow of praise that extols the glory of God as his defense and shield.

Exodus 33:18-19 –   Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory.”   And the Lord said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, ….   I will have mercy and compassion on whom I will ….”

Isaiah 58 states that when you show mercy,  Then your light will break forth like the dawn, ….your healing …appear; …righteousness …go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.”

David showed mercy towards Saul, while hiding in the cave, not killing him when he had the opportunity (1 Samuel 24).  A close personal daily walk with Him had enabled God to create changes in David through trials, discipline, deliverance and blessings so that his life could give glory to God - from a murderer to a man after God’s

LEADING A LIFE THAT GIVES GLORY TO GOD

From the time sin entered man, he tried to hide from God. He follows the same path today so much so that God becomes a lesser part of his daily necessity. Only times of trouble, leads us to seek and walk closely with God.  Even at these times we do not know how to appeal to God- for we do not know Him the way we should.  During trials we sometimes end up returning evil for evil instead of good for evil.  Each day in the life of a Christian is a battlefield.  If we give glory to God in every situation then His Spirit reigns in us like it did in David.  "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, ,,,,…so  that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.”  (2 Cor. 4:6-7, 10)

Starting a walk with God is simple. Remember the times you stayed awake through the night talking with your friends or with someone you loved?  The yearning to be with them overpowered your sleep!  Similarly, yearn for God’s presence.  Jesus yearned to be in the presence of His Father so much that He separated Himself from the crowd and went to lonely places to pray- just Him and His Father having a good time together.  He heard from His Father and did His will: "I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.” (John 17:4)

A shoemaker once asked Martin Luther how he could lead a life that would bring God glory.  He replied,  Make a good shoe and sell it at a fair price.” Luther recognized the spiritual value of man's everyday job and encouraged him to glorify God by doing that work well! In everything you do if you are able to give thanks to God then you are on the right path.

Jesus also taught us how we must glorify God.  "I am the vine, you are the branches …..   My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit.”  (John 15:5,8) - a continual abiding leads to His life living through ours. All God is trying to do is transform us into the likeness of His Son so that we will manifest the radiance of God (Romans 8:29).
