GROWING INTO MATURE SONS OF GOD

Saturday, 24 November 2018

Proverbs 1 : 1-33

“Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.” - Proverbs 1:23

Mature sons of God are given authority to rule and reign in peace. To become mature sons of God we need Wisdom from above. Proverbs are real Wisdom from the Father to His sons and daughters. Prudent ones will receive these unique instructions and grow in wisdom and understanding. As they grow they start exhibiting heavenly values and customs because of this priceless wisdom. Proverbs start with: Proverbs 1:1  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: Please take a note of three words which is prophetically indicative in itself:- Proverbs ( practical Wisdom from Above- James 3:17 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” son (indicating sons of God the Father- 1 John 3:1-3) & kings to reign in Father’s kingdom (1 Peter 2:9; Rev 1:6). This can be fulfilled only when we attain this Wisdom from above to become mature sons of God.

Father-son relationship:

Proverbs are full of the phrase "My son"- ( Prov 1:8, 10, 15...) which indicates an unseen Father instructing His beloved children. A Father’s instructions are always meant to be good to a child; how much more our heavenly Father. In order to grow in wisdom, one needs to start with a proper relationship with the Father. Only a true son will have the elements of Father in him so that he or she can grow up into maturity like his or her father through intimate fellowship with each other. This is brought about in a New Testament believer by a process of being 'Born Again.' 1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. Each born-again child has deep within him the fear of the Lord, which is the starting of true knowledge and wisdom; whereas others do not have this in them.  Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Grow in Truth:

The true growth in wisdom is the path of repentance ("Turn at my rebuke...”). When a person is born again, he needs to take the path of repentance to produce fruits unto repentance. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Mat 3:8  Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance.
Act 2:17  …, SAYS GOD, THAT I WILL POUR OUT OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL FLESH; YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, …

Fruit cannot be produced without having the Spirit of Truth in us. He is the enabling one who will bring forth fruits unto repentance. For this, we need to be connected to the True vine as branches. Prov. 1:23 ... Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. This is the New Testament covenant promise summed up in one verse. See... Hebrews 8:10-12: FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT … I WILL PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.  .. FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, ……I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."

Note:

“…but grow in the grace and

knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..”

-(2 Peter 3:18)
