THE WAY TO OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS!
Friday, 28 December 2018
1 Corinthians 10 : 1-22
“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” -1 Corinthians 10:13
All of us have gone through trials and temptations at some point of our life and still may go through. Many of us have even thought that no one in the world has gone through such trying situations, except us. We may haven fallen into many temptations and may be wondering about a way out. The verse for our meditation today is an encouragement and an answer to how we can be overcomers in times of trials and temptations.
Temptations to sin are all around us. James 1:13-15 tells us about temptation: “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” Temptation to sin is when we are lured by the lust of the eyes, the cravings of the flesh and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Satan uses these means to tempt us, but we need to pray for God’s strength to overcome it.
No matter how great the temptation or trial you go through, Jesus is able to deliver you. Hebrews 2:18 says: “Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.” Christ Jesus is our help! If you are suffering from the guilt of sins committed or you are under some temptation right now, be assured that Jesus, the Saviour can help. Put your trust in Him! If the temptation is like an overpowering storm, you can overcome it with Jesus by your side. 2 Peter 2:9 says, “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.” Submit and seek Jesus for help when you are faced with trials and temptations in your life!
Even in the midst of our trials, we are reminded of the faithfulness of our Lord. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” We can rely on God’s faithfulness—without Him and His strength it is impossible to overcome every temptation from the evil one. When we rely upon His power and guidance, we become overcomers through Him! God is in control of every situation. The Word of God teaches us that He will not allow a trial to come upon us that is beyond our ability to bear. It is clear that we will have trials and temptations in life. Whether we are able to overcome them depends on our dependence on His guidance and strength. If we have fallen into temptations in the past it is because we chose to ignore His guidance and directions. God has already planned a way of escape for us. Choose to seek Him and obey His directions! Be an overcomer through Christ!
Trials are needed in life to experience the love of Christ and His faithfulness to all who trust in Him. James 1:2-3 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Trials will strengthen our faith and perseverance, in turn help us be His mighty witnesses.
From this day on, we can choose not to fall into temptation and sin. When we are tempted to lust, commit any sin or when we are tempted to disobey the Word of God for momentary pleasures…remember we can overcome them through Christ, our Lord and Saviour! Would you trust Him?
Prayer:
Loving LORD, pour out Your Spirit and
help me be an overcomer through You!
In Jesus name. Amen!
