Psalms 119 : 1-24

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts].” -Psalm119:9[AMP]

Today’s markets are so filled with adulterated things that people long to find things that are 100%Pure! Some take the extra pain to seek out and find pure stuff since they understand that in the long run, good health and longevity does to a certain extent depend on the consumption of unadulterated food. If we give such importance to consumption of pure products for a healthy life, shouldn’t we prioritize to keeping the purity of our lives so that our lives will count to eternity?

Living in a fallen world full of things that lure and vie for our attention, it is hard especially for young people to keep the path of purity. Constantly bombarded with “what is pleasing to the eye” it is not easy to say “NO!” to a lot of attractive choices before them. One has to painstakingly work overtime to keep himself/herself being pulled away by the so-called things of the world that can ultimately contaminate the purity of life a Christian is to lead in this world. Our key verse gives sound advice to keep our lives with purity!

Three Steps to keep the Purity in Life:

  • A Choice to base your life on God’s Word: Vs.1: “How blessed are those…Who walk in the law of the LORD.” Decide to live according to God’s Word. The first choice of allowing Christ Jesus to be the Lord of your life will allow the Holy Spirit to direct your life according to God’s ways which are written in His Word. Psalm 119:133 says, “Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” It is easy to veer off track if we don’t regularly examine if our life is in conformity to God’s Word.  There will be ungodly people, multiple of peer counsellors pressuring young people to choose paths contrary to God’s Word, but you have to make up your mind to please God not men! You will be rewarded for not just listening to God’s Word but continuing to do it (Refer James 1:25).

  • A Careful Keeping of God’s Word within you: Vs.11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” If we delight ourselves in God’s Word, meditating on it and seeking to put it into practice, it will become our guiding principle. When the temptation to sin comes, the one in whom the Word stays strong, will be able to resist it. The Lord’s instruction to Joshua is still relevant today: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

  • A Consistent Seeking of God: “The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.” (Psalm 14:2 NLT) Seeking God means to seek Him daily in prayer and study of His Word. This allows Him to work in our lives His perfect plan for us. As we learn to rely on Him, He will help us live according to His good and pleasing way. Those who are led by the Spirit of God living in them are sons of God (Rom.8:14). Psalm 119:2&3 [TLB]: “Happy are all who search for God and always do his will, rejecting compromise with evil and walking only in his paths.”

A wakeup call for us to make purity a priority! Let us decide to discard things that stain our souls pulling us away from God’s Way; instead let His Word stay strong in us that we may live a full life!
